Teacher
Too often, music education either oversimplifies important concepts or presents them in ways that feel inaccessible. I strive to meet students where they are, treating each one as a capable musician while ensuring that complex ideas remain clear, meaningful, and engaging. My teaching approach balances rigorous technical training with room for curiosity and creative exploration.
I currently offer composition, piano, guitar, voice, and saxophone lessons both in-person and online, tailored to your individual goals and learning style.
"Michael talks to his students like they are professionals, and as such, they become like professionals. He never compromises the nuance of music theory by 'dumbing it down', rather he speaks to his students in a manner that strikes the perfect balance between maturity and accessibility."
—Aidan V"Do not hesitate to work with Michael. He is so gifted with both the technical expertise and emotional insight that is so important for learning to play the piano beautifully. Truly the best!"

Arranger and Copyist
Strong musical ideas deserve scores that serve both artistry and performance. I specialize in transforming musical concepts into professional, performance-ready works, balancing accuracy, playability, and creative integrity.
I provide transcriptions, transpositions, arrangements, and professional copying services with careful attention to detail and timely delivery. Each project is collaborative: I work closely with performers and composers to ensure the score reflects both the intended vision and the practical needs of performance.
"Michael is easy to collaborate with and is very open-minded about receiving input or adjusting passages in his music to take advantage of the innate characteristics of an instrument.”
—Laura Lessard, guitarist"His arrangements—like Libertango (Piazzolla) for an unusually configured quintet and Summertime (Gershwin) for piano trio—showcase his creativity, coloristic instinct, and versatility. Michael’s work is a joy to perform, and I look forward to many future collaborations."

Accompanist
The best collaborative music-making relies on partnership: listening, responding, and shaping sound together. As an accompanist, I bring both technical precision and musical sensitivity to rehearsals and performances, supporting singers with flexibility, nuance, and an awareness of the larger musical arc. Drawing on my background as a composer and music director, I approach each collaboration with a wide stylistic knowledge, ensuring that both music and text are fully realized while fostering an inspiring and supportive atmosphere.
I provide recital and concert accompaniment, coachings, and custom accompaniment tracks for auditions or learning. Whether in preparation for a performance, refining details in rehearsal, or building confidence for an audition, I tailor my work to the specific needs of each individual project.
“Michael is an extraordinary pianist and collaborator whose breadth of musical knowledge and professionalism are truly top-notch. He approaches each piece with deep sensitivity while bringing a lightness and ease that makes working with him a joy. He listens attentively, adapts effortlessly, and creates an inspiring atmosphere that elevates every collaboration”.
—Kiana Kinley-Safronoff, singer"It's not often you come across someone with Michael's stellar caliber of talent who also has the empathetic, attentive and nurturing qualities it takes to help someone learn challenging music while building a character."
—Suzanne McKenney, singer
